Possibly the most memorable exchange of the entire trip so
far (or at least in the Top 10): “If
anyone would have asked me where the Petrified Forest was, I would have guessed
northern Arizona". "Uh, we are in northern Arizona”. "Oh crap, you’re right”.
So coming out of Canyon de Chelly and back on to I-40 we
decided to take a detour through the Painted Desert and the Petrified
Forest. What was initially planned as a
quick 22-mile detour quickly turned in to a 2+ hour site seeing trip. The Painted Desert, the Badlands of Arizona,
and massive chunks of Petrified Wood, all needed to be explored.
